Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District is dedicated to bringing out the best in every student. A tall order for the third largest district in Texas but easily achieved through a focus on academics and innovative programs.
The district serves 117,446 students across 92 campuses, boasting a 16 to 1 student-teacher ratio, higher-than-average state-mandated test scores and a 93 percent graduation rate. Last year, high school seniors earned a total of $47,565,069 in academic scholarships. Every student in the district receives a Chromebook.
Niche.com awarded the district an overall A rating and noted that it is one of the top 10 districts in the Houston area, coming in at No. 7. It also places in the top 10 for best teachers.
From Kindergarten to high school, a rigorous academic program prepares students for each stage of their educational journey. Young students are not only taught the three R’s, but also receive art, music and physical education instruction. The Horizons Program for gifted and talented students is available to all K-12 students.
High school students prepare for college with a range of course options, electives and extracurricular activities. In 2020, the district initiated The College Academy. The program — housed at each high school campus — is geared toward helping interested students fulfill their ‘Foundation and Graduation Endorsement’ requirements while simultaneously completing an Associate of Science degree.
The program is a partnership between the district and Lone Star College CyFair. The course of study includes dual credit. Students are prepared to complete a two-year degree or apply coursework to a four-year college or university. The first class graduated in 2021 with 85 students receiving both a high school diploma and an Associate degree.
Athletes fair very well, with Niche ranking CFISD among the top 10 districts for athletes in Texas. Last year, CFISD athletes boasted a record number of athletics playoff qualifiers. Students can participate in football, basketball, baseball, softball, swim, soccer, wrestling, track and field, cheerleading and more.
Music, fine arts and drama programs receive as much attention as athletics. The district is one of 42 Texas Art Education Association Districts of Distinction, an annual recognition program honoring school districts that are leading the way in the visual arts. Cy-Fair schools regularly win awards at UIL music and drama competitions.
To further support the arts, the district is constructing a $46.6 million visual and performing arts center. Opening next year, the 88,000-square-foot facility will feature a seating capacity of 1,500 split between a two-balcony auditorium and 200-seat theater. Other amenities will include a dance studio, visual arts room and office spaces. Space outside the complex will be available for community events.
Marvida is proud that young residents will be zoned to this exceptional district and looks forward to seeing them achieve great things.
